– The Greater Kansas City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure recently released the Request for Application for the 2013-2014 Community Grant Program. Nonprofit organizations located in the 17-county Komen Kansas City service area which includes northeastern Kansas and northwestern Missouri are encouraged to apply.
In 2011, the Greater Kansas City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen conducted a Community Profile to determine the breast health needs of our community. The Community Profile revealed that uninsured women struggled to receive comprehensive breast health services. The lack of financial resources remains one of the largest barriers to our community accessing breast health services. According to Theresa Osenbaugh, Community Outreach Manager of the Greater Kansas City Affiliate, “Grant priorities for this funding cycle are focused on ensuring quality care for all. Grant requests need to focus on providing breast health education for women beginning at age 20, providing breast cancer screenings and diagnostic services for uninsured/underinsured patients, and support services for uninsured/underinsured breast cancer patients.”
During the 2012-2013 grant funding cycle, 20 grants totaling $925,525 were granted to programs providing breast health services in the Greater Kansas City area. Funds raised through events like the 19th Annual Susan G. Komen Kansas City Race for the Cure in August will support the new grant cycle.
Applications are currently available online and are due by 5PM on November 15, 2012. Due to the transition to an online application system, all applicants must attend a grant kick-off workshop in order to be eligible to apply. Workshops will be held September 10th from 10AM-Noon at East Hills Library in St. Joseph, MO and September 12th from 9:30AM-Noon at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation in Kansas City, MO.
