Who is Komen Kansas City?
Komen Kansas City is compromised of passionate people from the greater Kansas City community that are committed to the fight against breast cancer and serve in various roles:
Ambassadors - volunteers who are passionate about spreading the message of early detection saving lives through speaking at community opportunities.
Board of Directors - 15 volunteers who focus on IRS 501(c)(3) compliance, upholding the affiliate agreement with the national organization, and providing long-term strategic planning More Information
Breast Cancer Survivor Luncheon Committee - volunteers who plan the affiliate's annual luncheon to honor breast cancer survivors and their co-survivors (their supporters)
Communications Committee - volunteers who assist on website postings, monthly e-newsletter ideas, and media relations
Grant Committee - a group of volunteers that implements and provides oversight of the local grant making program in support of the Susan G. Kome for the Cure promise and affiliate goals.
Grant Review Committee - a panel of medical and community experts, breast cancer survivors and business leaders who review local grant requests and make recommendations to the Komen Kansas City Board of Directors.
Race for the Cure Committee - large group of volunteers who focus on planning affiliate's largest fundraising event, a 5 K Walk/Run held annually on the second Sunday in August.
Staff - 5 employees who focus on executing the affiliate strategic plan while providing leadership continuity among the various volunteer groups More Information
What does Komen Kansas City do?
The Komen Greater Kansas City Affiliate is one of over a hundred global Komen Affiliates. Since 1993, Komen Kansas City has granted $5.3 million into the Greater Kansas City area for breast health education, breast cancer screening, and treatment programs. Komen Kansas City has also funded over $1.6 million for national breast cancer research.
The Komen Greater Kansas City Affiliate is a proud member of the Kansas City Cancer Coalition and the Missouri Cancer Consortium.
