Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Kansas City:

Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Kansas City is comprised of passionate people from our who are passionate in the fight against breast cancer. We impact breast health throughout our 17 county service area, including northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Kansas City is committed to action against breast cancer through research, community health, and advocacy all of which are made possible through our fundraising efforts.

Community Health: Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Kansas City is invested in the health of our local community. A snapshot of the “state of breast health”, our Community Profile, is completed on a bi-annual basis. The Community Profile directs all priorities and activities of the affiliate including actions for Education and Grant Making.

• Education: Susan G. Komen for the Cure educates the community through grassroots efforts. A team of volunteer “ambassadors” are sent to spread the message of early detection and breast self awareness in our community. Susan G. Komen also partners with local media and grantees to ensure that the service area is up to date on the latest breast health information.

• Grant Making: Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City funds 75% of the money raised back into our local service area. Since 1994, nearly $8 million dollars has been granted to local organizations providing breast health services such as education, access to screening, and treatment support. Advocacy: Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Kansas City believes that access to breast health care is not optional-it is your right! Local, State, and Federal elected officials can have an impact on breast health and screening services. Komen Kansas city works to educate these officials on the impact of early detection, access to screening, and programs which reduce  barriers to care such as the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. Continuously throughout the year, Susan G. Komen for the Cure reaches out to elected officials to provide up to date breast health information and visits Washington D.C. to participate in a National Lobby Day.

Research: 25% of all funds raised from our local affiliate are used to support innovative research on the national level. To date, approximately $2.3 million dollars has been given to support research around the globe, research that is transforming the face of breast cancer. Take a look at Susan G. Fundraising Efforts: The impact being made through Community Health, Advocacy, and Research is made possible due to our local fundraising efforts. Fundraising events occur throughout the year and include:

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is lead by a a volunteer Board of Directors who focus on upholding the affiliate agreement with the national organization, providing long-term planning, and IRS 501(c)(3) compliance as well as a staff of 7 who are focused on executing the affiliate strategic plan.
